Last August a touching story surfaced around Syracuse about a boy named C.J. LaFrance. LaFrance was a 9 year old with allegedly Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and was able to and hang out at the Syracuse football team’s practice.
However, police now say parents Martin and Jolene LaFrance made up the whole story about the illness so he can go hang out with the football team.
According to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, via Syracuse.com, the LaFrances were charged last Friday with scheme to defraud and endangering the welfare of a child. The parents’ GoFundMe page for C.J. raised over $3,000—out of a bold goal of $8,000—which will be returned to the donors. On the original article from Syracuse.com, there was a comment left by the kid’s “grandmother,” who plugged the fundraising page:
These allegations are truly disgusting. Fabricating a child’s cancer is one of the worst things we have heard in a long time.
