Michael Bennett Taken into Custody on Assault Charge, Expected to Post Bond

Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Michael Bennett was taken into custody Monday in Harris County, Texas, on an assault charge.

According to Miya Shay of ABC 13 in Houston, Bennett is expected to post the $10,000 bond:

Per’s Tim McManus, Bennett was indicted Friday on a felony charge of injury to the elderly in relation to an incident that occurred after Super Bowl LI.

Following Super Bowl LI between the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons at NRG Stadium in Houston, Bennett allegedly pushed through security, including a 66-year-old woman who is paraplegic, to gain field access.

Bennett was attempting to get to his brother, tight end Martellus Bennett, who had just won the Super Bowl as a member of the Pats.

According to McManus, Houston Police chief Art Acevedo said Friday that the woman who Bennett allegedly pushed suffered a sprained shoulder.

He added that Bennett allegedly told the people he pushed, “You all must know who I am, and I can own this m—–f—–. I’m going down to the field, whether you like it or not.”

The charge against Bennett carries a punishment of up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

At the time of the alleged incident, Bennett was playing for the Seattle Seahawks.

This offseason, Seattle traded the three-time Pro Bowler along with a 2018 seventh-round draft pick to the Eagles for wide receiver Marcus Johnson and a 2018 fifth-round draft pick.
