With the NFL draft now in the past, and free agent signings relatively wrapped up we are fast approaching the start of a new football season in a couple months. A lot of different moves have been made, and this is SONTLive writer Simon Villanoz evaluation of every team’s offseason as of now. A division will be evaluated every week and a team released one by one. Yesterday Simon covered the Chicago Bears. Today we are on to the Green Bay Packers:

The Packers had an excellent draft, but they would make some big time moves in free agency as well. They acquired Deshone Kizer who has a lot of promise, and may be the successor to Aaron Rodgers someday. This move reserved a draft pick, and got a player who has shown what he can do. Kizer’s ceiling is very high in my opinion. They would then let go of Jordy Nelson, but signed an impact player in Jimmy Graham who will add yet another weapon to their strong receiving core. They would also add the 6-5 former Notre Dame wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown in the later rounds of the draft. In my opinion he’s a steal, and he can be yet another great wide receiver. Their offense will be as strong and as deep as ever going into this next season.

On the defensive side, the Packers improved greatly. They would pick up Muhammed Wilkerson in free agency who will significantly strengthen that defensive line led by Mike Daniels. Tramon Williams would be added as well giving the Packers more veteran presence in their locker room. Their biggest additions would come in the draft. Oren Burks from Vanderbilt was added, and he can be a solid rotational linebacker right off the bat in my opinion. That wouldn’t be the most significant pick though. Cornerback has always been one of the Packers’ biggest weaknesses, but in the draft they addressed the position by taking two highly talented corners. Both of these cornerbacks were dominant in college, and locked down opposing receivers week after week. Jaire Alexander and Josh Jackson were great pick ups. Alexander could’ve been the best corner in this draft if he didn’t have as long an injury history as he did. Jackson was somebody who dominated college football with 8 interceptions on the season, and has just as many great skills as Jaire Alexander. This duo can be instant starters for the Packers, and give them promising corners who one day can be the best in the league. Years from now people will look at these two corners and wonder how they fell to a contender like the Packers.
