This summer, Derrick Rose, the Minnesota Timberwolves point guard announced the start of his scholarship program. The Rose Scholars.
The program is awarding nearly $400,000 worth of scholarships to those kids who want to pursue their dreams of a college degree.
Alverto Ruiz won $10,000 las week for tuition at Middle Tennessee State University.
Gabriel Lee now has won $200,000 for his studies of kinesiology at Michigan State University covering all of his 4-year expenses.
Derrick Rose, the youngest MVP in NBA history, has a long tradition of giving back to those in need.
In 2014, Rose donated $1 million to After School Matters, a Chicago charity that arranges out-of-school apprenticeships for teens. The 30-year-old also donated $7,000 to a man walking from Chicago to Washington, D.C., to help stop Chicago’s gun violence and has paid for multiple funerals in his hometown of Chicago.
