Coming Soon… The Tampa Montreal Bay Devil Expo Rays? This Is Not A Joke…

This not a drill… The MLB has given permission to the Tampa Bay Rays to explore becoming the MLB’s first ever two-city team. The Rays have actually been playing good baseball, 43-31 record this season, but the Rays have an average attendance of just 14,546. The attendance has been so low that the team even had to address it publicly at one point. Time will tell if calling two cities home is the solution to the problems that have been ongoing in Tampa.

On top of this all, Tampa Bay also doesn’t have a stadium that many would call ‘up to standards,’ Tropicana Field. It’s old, cheap, indoors, with some weirdly low ceilings for an MLB ballpark…. Well, I guess the solution could be to play half their home games in Tampa Bay and the other half in Montreal… That’s what’s been proposed at least.

The proposed plan calls for the Rays to play games at new stadiums in both Tampa and Montreal. By playing in Florida in the early part of the season, the idea is that the new stadium would not require a roof enclosure and the cost to build it would be more reasonable.

My real concern is, do we go with Montreal Expos and Tampa Bay Rays for each half of the year? Or what type of naming is this thing going to be?

What do you think?
