We have another Track and Field controversy. As we said before one of the sports known most for cheating. And here’s another case.

Ben Johnson, Canada’s greatest sprinter ever, won the 100 meters at the 1988 Games in Seoul, South Korea, in world record (9.79 seconds) time , but was later disqualified for using banned performance-enhancing drugs.

Three days later, American Carl Lewis, who finished second, was given the gold medal. One of the most unprecedented moves in Olympics history.

Little did the public know that this was going to help usher an era where many scandals involving performance enhancing drugs were going to taint many greats.

“I didn’t think for one moment I was going to lose that 100m final until we crossed that line,” Carl Lewis said years later. “I went over to congratulate him and he pulled his arm away – he wouldn’t even take my handshake.”
