Not A Shocker, The Cleveland Browns Want Urban Meyers

Urban Meyer Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns have a strong interest in former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer, sources told The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman.

Meyer, who has reportedly talked to the Dallas Cowboys about their head coaching job, announced his retirement from coaching after his 2018 campaign with the Buckeyes.

The 55-year-old had an illustrious coaching career in college football, collecting three national titles throughout his tenure at Florida and Ohio State. He’s one of three college football bench bosses to win a national championship with two different programs.

The Browns parted ways with first-year head coach Freddie Kitchens and general manager John Dorsey after a disappointing 6-10 campaign in 2019.

Other potential suitors reportedly on Cleveland’s radar include Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, Ravens OC Greg Roman, Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy, Bills OC Brian Daboll, and 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh. The Browns interviewed former Packers coach Mike McCarthy on Thursday.

UPDATE: Conflicting reports have entered the room. Browns owner is saying they want someone only with NFL experience.

This could mean one of two things… They have no idea what they’re doing, or Urban already said no…
