Liberty coach Hugh Freeze is making his debut with Flames in a hospital bed set up in the coaches’ box on Saturday night. The bed is being used to support his healing back.
The Flames are hosting No. 22 Syracuse in what is most probably the biggest game in Liberty history. Freeze missed nearly two weeks of practice because of a herniated disk in his back. He had surgery six days after first missing practice, and doctors discovered he also had a serious staph infection.
Here’s a look at Hugh Freeze’s seat in the coaches’ booth.
Freeze will essentially videoconference with his team pregame and at halftime and do so during postgame press conference.
The plan is to fly him to Louisiana next week to be with the team on the road. pic.twitter.com/YA1HAXiQ43

Got to admit. Hugh Freeze has had a rough few years. Last we say of Freeze he was coaching Ole Miss and a whole prostitute thing came up and he got fired. And now he’s on the brink of a comeback into college football and he won’t let a herniated disk stop him. I love redemption stories and I am rooting for Hugh.
