Huskies Coach Mike Hopkins Places 30 Mousetraps In The Locker Room

The University of Washington is having a great season. The Huskies have only one loss in conference play and they are basically a lock to earn a trip to the NCAA tournament and have already locked up the conference regular season championship with 4 games left to play. But don’t tell their head coach Mike Hopkins that. According to the Seattle Times, Coach Hop decided mouse traps was a way to get his team not to be complacent.

[Seattle Times] – “Like 30 mousetraps everywhere,” sophomore guard Jaylen Nowell said laughing. “I’m like, what the hell’s going on? We’ve got mouses?”

The Washington coaching staff had the traps laid out everywhere in the building to ward off a potentially troublesome infestation they feared would ruin the team’s storybook season of redemption.

“Will Conroy came up to me and he said coach, ‘I was reading about the coach of the New Orleans Saints (Sean Payton) and he said that every four games that they would win, he would come in with mousetraps,” coach Mike Hopkins said. “It was, don’t eat the cheese. You’ve got to stay humble, hungry and wise. I was like, whoa. That’s a great idea.”

Seriously? the best part of this story is that who came up with the idea? Hype man, Will Conroy. If you aren’t a fan of the UW you don’t know how amazing Conroy has been as an assistant coach this year. He has been animated on the bench to say the least all season long.
